His first EP, Headlights, was released in February of 2015. His first debut EP, Headlights EP, containing four songs that includes the positively reviewed “Midnight” was released in February 2015. He attended NYUs Clive Davis School of Recorded Music but dropped out to pursue his career. Miller was signed to the independent label, Glassnote Records in early 2014 and subsequently dropped out from NYU due to scheduling problems (especially since he played music in a number of NYC venues). He also spent his weekends playing piano at places such as Rockwood Music Hall, The Bitter End, and the burlesque bar, Slipper Room in the East Village. When he was 18 years old, Tor Miller went to New York University, specifically Clive Davis School of Recorded Music. During his high school, he started a pop-punk band. From there, Miller started to develop singing and writing songs. He started to play piano after his parents set up a lesson with a piano teacher who he said to be “a laid-back New Jersey wedding singer”.

It is a black-and-white video in which Miller, wearing a long coat and neck scarf, is seen walking through New York City, featuring its traffic jams, stores, and subway during a cold midnight. The music video for "Midnight" premiered on 9 March 2015. Miller's husky, distinctive vocals is regarded as the highlight of the song, while the lyrics are also praise for its vivid and poetic description of the city. The song has been positively by critics, with Zane Lowe of BBC Radio 1 announcing it to be the "Hottest Record In The World" for the week. "Midnight" clocks at 4 minutes 13 seconds. The song starts acoustically with piano, played by Tor Miller himself, before it slowly builds with background guitar, group harmonies, percussion, a string section, and falsetto by Miller.
